SRK-Anushka's next film vs Akshay's Crack: Big Bollywood clashes in 2017

2017 has some fierce box office battles in store. Salman Khan and Alia Bhatt took to Twitter to announce August 11 as the release date of Imtiaz Ali's upcoming film with Shah Rukh Khanand Anushka Sharma. The film, which was tentatively titled The Ring so far, will battle it out Neeraj Pandey's Crack starring Akshay Kumar.

Shah Rukh Khan does not seem to have learned from his Dilwale disaster. Last year, when Dilwale clashed with Ranveer Singh-Deepika Padukone starrer Bajirao Mastani, the latter made a huge dent in the collections of SRK's film. And Neeraj Pandey, who delivered a blockbuster with MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, is definitely a formidable force to reckon with, as is Akshay, who delivered one of the biggest hits of the year with Rustom.
With Independence Day weekend set to witness a clash of the titans, we take a look at other big box office battles in 2017.

Shah Rukh Khan already changed the release date of Raees once to avoid a clash with Sultan, but set himself up for a clash with the Hrithik Roshan-Yami Gautam starrer on January 26. With both parties adamant about the release date, the battle of one-upmanship for the number of screens has already begun.

Sushant Singh Rajput and Kriti Sanon have already grabbed everyone's attention with their sizzling chemistry in the first-look posters of Raabta. It remains to be seen if they can battle it out on February 10 with Akshay Kumar's Jolly LLB 2, which is the second installment of the immensely popular courtroom comedy drama.

Fans are excited to see estranged couple Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif for what might be their last onscreen collaboration in Jagga Jasoos. Buzz surrounding the Anurag Basu film is high for its lead pair, and it remains to be seen if Sonakshi Sinha's Noor can match up. The two will fight it out on April 7.

Bollywood News: Top Star Arijit Singh Is Calling It Quits at 29

Is 29 just too old for Bollywood? Arijit Singh believes so.

Hollywood is a difficult business to break into. It’s even harder to stay in the limelight. But, how difficult is Bollywood? Just ask Arijit Singh.

Perhaps you’ve never heard of Arijit Singh. That’s okay. But in Bollywood as well as the Indian music industry, Arijit Singh is a big name. The Indian playback singer and music programmer launched his career in reality show Fame Gurukul. The reality show deals with audiences selecting the best pair of India’s best singers and performers. Winners received a contract with Sony, along with a Maruti Alto. Arijit Singh lost at the finals, yet, he still became Bollywood’s top voice.
However, at just 29 years old, Singh is ready to retire. Highlighting a cold reality in Bollywood, Singh reportedly told the media,
“I don’t think I have a long way to go. This might be my last year. Normally, fresh voices replace [current favorites] every five to seven years in Bollywood.”
Is there any way to avoid fading away into Bollywood history after just 5 to 6 years? There’s one possibility, though it’s notoriously difficult.
“I might be able to change that. If I work really hard on specific genres, I might be able to stay longer. That way, I can emerge as the only singer who can croon songs of those genres. Maybe that’s how I will survive.”
Unlike other Bollywood, and even Hollywood, celebrities, Singh prefers to stay away from the limelight. He said,
I enjoy a quiet life, without much interruption. Over the past three years, I have seen my fan base grow, and I think it’s essential for them to know that I’ve always been someone who refrains from interactions because I enjoy a silent life. With the growth of social media, this, too, becomes difficult.
Singh remains an idol for many aspiring singers. It’s unclear what his plans are after fading away from the Bollywood limelight.

Nigerian Female Singers We Will Love To Make A BIG Comeback

WEIRD MC

Her first hit song from the 90s was “Allen Avenue”. Her popularity soared even further in 2006 with the release of yet another hit song “Ijoya”. She then had a collaboration with PSquare in the same year. She has since been pretty quiet on the music front. Her official twitter profile says she is a UN Peace Ambassador, Road Safety Marshall, Motivational Speaker and celebrity Judge!

EGO OGBARO

Ego Ogbaro  came into the limelight as Lagbaja’s back up singer, who can forget her sonorous voice in hit songs like Konko Below, Nothing for you and Never far away? She became a household name and it wasn’t a suprise when she left lagbaja for her a solo career in 2007.
After she left Lagbaja for a solo career in 2007, she set up her own and released and an album which wasn’t so much of a market success, although very creative. We hear she’s got another album in the works, and we look forward to having her back on top!

SASHA P

Sasha P also known as the First Lady of Nigerian Hip Hop first won our hearts with her performance with Trybe Records – the group that released the hits Oya & Work It in 2002. She went on to release a few singles that were hit bangers – Emi Legan, Adara, Only One and Bad Girl P. But since Bad Girl P , Sasha P has been out of the music scene. Sasha P has been focusing on her fashion label Eclectic by Sasha – a ready to wear retail brand. She has however insisted that she would never leave music for fashion.

ESSENCE

Uwale Okoro popularly known as Essence started out as Kenny Saint Brown’s back-up singer in the days of “Heaven came down”. She soon came into limelight when she did Super Story’s theme song. From then she started recording theme songs for movies and soon released her album “Essential”. The album had a few hit songs such as “Facebook Love” featuring Jaywon. A while after that she released the inspirational single “I will get By”. She soon disappeared and has been away from the music scene for a while now. What has she been up to?

Modupe-Oreoluwa Oyeyemi Ola popularly known as Mocheddah was every music lover’s sweetheart when she released her Album “Franchise Celebrity” in 2013. She was silent for a while but soon came out to say she had floated her own record label. Fast forward a bit- she recently released a single Bad ft Olamide. It has been enjoying fair airplay.
Mocheddah seems to be in the news more for her great fashion sense or her lovely relationship with Gbemi Olateru’s brother Bukunyi Olateru than her music.

She showed her mettle with her eponymous album- B.O.U.Q.U.I which had quite a number of hit songs- From “Molejo” to ”Vanity. Less than two months after parting with former fiance, James Packer, singer, Mariah Carey was spotted on the beach putting on an extremely steamy display of affection with backup dancer, Bryan Tanaka.

The ‘We Belong Together’ singer and her billionaire fiance had earlier split in October following accusations of messing around with the same backup dancer who she had no qualms kissing publicly weeks later.
Mariah, 46 and her lover, 33, made a show of holding hands and playing happy couple as they clearly had the time of their lives.

Hollywood still outsells Nollywood in Nigerian cinemas’ – Filmhouse boss, Kene Mkparu

Despite the growing acceptance of Nollywood films in Nigerian cinemas, foreign blockbusters, especially those from Hollywood still massively outsell Nigerian content.
This was disclosed by Filmhouse CEO, Kene Mkparu when he appeared on CNN‘s Marketplace Africa.

Replying to a question about what the taste of Nigerians who patronise cinemas was, Mkparu, whose outfit owns a total of 12 cinemas around the country said, ‘At the moment, it’s about 60-65% Hollywood and 35% Nollywood Nigerian content.’
He continued, ‘But what we are finding out is that Nollywood films are generating the kind of revenue that Hollywood films are generating in cinemas.’
Mkparu went on to cite the examples of AY Makun‘s box office success stories, 30 Days in Atlanta and A Trip to Jamaica – the latter having usurped the former as the highest grossing Nigerian movie in the country’s cinema history.
