DISOBEDIENCE! Despite Stern Warning From Doctor,Pop Star, Wizkid Performs In Lagos Concert

The singer who was advised by his doctors’ to abstain from live performances in December 2016 and January 2017, ignored the advice as he took to the stage at the Pepsi Rhythm Unplugged Concert.

Wizkid has disobeyed medical advice by giving a performance in Lagos.

The singer who was advised by his doctors’ to abstain from live performances in December 2016 and January 2017, ignored the advice as he took to the stage at the Pepsi Rhythm Unplugged Concert.

Pepsi Rhythm Unplugged, which is in its 12th year, is West Africa’s most popular concert. The event which held on Friday, December 23 had performances from P-Square, Wizkid, Davido, Olamide, Falz, Omawumi and many others. It was hosted by Bovi and produced by Cobhams

Nigeria’s finest, Wizkid, has been all over the international music scene this year. A song with Drake, MTV awards wins, various collaborations and a Grammy nomination is the summary of his year, before medical advice from his doctors made him cancel all of his holiday concerts.

But he defied his doctors’ orders to abstain from performing, as he took to the stage, payed respect to Cecil Hammond, the organiser of the concert, before diving into a set that contained a selected number of his hit songs. He was backed by collaborator DJ Xclusive, who cued in ‘Jeje’, ‘The Matter’, ‘Jaiye Jaiye’, ‘Caro’, ‘In my bed’, and many more.

“Doctors told me not to perform,” Starboy said during his set, “but before I blew, this concert held, and has supported me. I have to do this for them.”

Wizkid recently released a new single “Daddy Yo’, which features Ghanaian songstress, Efya, with a video released via VEVO.

Wizkid’s health concerns has had him cancel a concert in Uganda, which prompted the promoters to seek redress in court, with a judge issuing an arrest warrant for the singer.

In documents that surfaced online the charges levelled against Wizkid include obtaining money by false pretence, cheating and conspiracy to defraud.

Ugandan Entertainment Company Face TV through Muwema co advocates and solicitors, is reportedly accusing Wizkid of receiving $60,000, estimated at N27million as performance fee for the concerts he just cancelled due to health issues.

Face TV claims that Wizkid’s team agreed to the deal, only to incur extra expenses for booking flights and other logistics to the tune of $300,000.

They are accused of selling tickets to 25,000 people for the concert which was cancelled. Wizkid was billed to perform at Lugogo Cricket Oval on December 3 but failed to show up for the event due to health conditions.

Kemi Olunloyo’s Father Has Called Me To Apologize – Veteran Actor, Jide Kosoko

Veteran actor, Jide Kosoko, was one time suspected of being a ritualist by Kemi Olunloyo because he had lost three wives.

In a new interview with Saturday Beats, Jide addressed Kemi's allegations saying she only spoke her mind and she had a right to air her opinion. He further said that it was a closed chapter because Kemi Olunloyo's father called him to apologise for his daughter’s utterance.

Jide told SB:

“I do not want to go to Kemi Olunloyo’s issue because the chapter is closed. I do not want to dwell much on it because when people approached me and informed me of what she was saying, I said she was entitled to her opinion.

She was voicing out, what about those that would not say anything but in their mind, they would say that I have lost about three wives? They are only being human but the truth is that for Olunloyo, that is her opinion no matter how hurt I might have been with her utterances. By my nature, there was nothing I could do.

But I appreciate her father who called me and apologised. He said some other things that I may not be able to share with the public.

“When she said all those things, I really did not reply because it is not in my nature and that time, I was mourning so her case was secondary. I am still mourning so there are very little things I want to say.”

It was also alleged that Kosoko didn’t pay the bride price of the late Henrietta. To that allegation he said,

“I did not pay her bride price and she stayed with me for 22 years, does that not mean that something is wrong somewhere? The burial ceremony plans did not change suddenly.

The plan since the day she died was that she would be buried in her hometown. I told them that I wanted her to be buried in Lagos, it was a case of give and take and my family being a deeply cultured one said that we should give them an opportunity for them to bury her at home.

You may not know, there may be someone in the family who may think there is a foul play and would want to do anything to confirm one or two things, so I could not really stop them. She belonged to all of us but more to me. I embrace peace and nothing happened at her hometown, it was a normal catholic burial,”
 he said.

“Forget about what people said. My late wife was ill and she died of complications which arose from diabetes. My friends, family and colleagues stood by me and I appreciate it.

Of course, you will always have one or two persons that would say one or two negative things but in my life, I have fought so many wars and I have won all of them; so it is only someone who wants to be crushed that would confront me in war because almighty God has His plan for me. It is quite unfortunate that all these things are happening to me but I still thank almighty God because there are reasons for everything.”

Carrie Fisher in stable condition after medical emergency

Carrie Fisher, the actress who is known for her role as Princess Leia in the original "Star Wars" trilogy, is in stable condition after suffering a medical emergency aboard a flight from London to Los Angeles Friday.

Her brother, Todd Fisher, told The Associated Press that she was "out of emergency" and stabilized at a Los Angeles hospital Friday afternoon. He said he could not discuss any other details about what happened.
The 60-year-old star experienced medical trouble during the flight and was treated by paramedics immediately upon landing in Los Angeles around noon Friday, according to reports citing unnamed sources. Celebrity website TMZ, which first reported the incident, said anonymous sources told them the actress suffered a heart attack.
Fisher's publicists and representatives for her mother, Debbie Reynolds, and her daughter, Billie Lourd, did not immediately return calls from the AP.
Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Erik Scott said paramedics administered advanced life-saving care to a patient at Los Angeles International Airport Friday and transported the person to a nearby hospital. He did not identify the patient as Fisher.
The actress and author is considered a member of Hollywood royalty — her parents are Debbie Reynolds and the late singer Eddie Fisher.
Catapulted to stardom as Princess Leia in 1977's "Star Wars," Carrie Fisher reprised the role as the tough-as-nails leader of a galactic rebellion in three sequels, including last year's "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."
Fisher is best known for her portrayal of Leia, but she is also an accomplished writer known for no-holds-barred accounts of her struggles with addiction and mental illness.
Her thinly veiled autobiography "Postcards from the Edge" was adapted into a 1987 film version starring Shirley MacLaine and Meryl Streep. She transformed her one-woman show "Wishful Drinking," which played on Broadway and was filmed for HBO, was also turned into a book.
She has recently been promoting her latest book, "The Princess Diarist," in which she reveals that she and co-star Harrison Ford had an affair on the set of "Star Wars."
The Associated Press contributed to this report.

"New Era" beat Darey's "Naked", Wande Coal's "Wanted", Brymo's "Klitoris", and Seyi Shay's "Seyi or Shay" for the Best R&B/Pop album.

The album also bagged "Album of the Year" which Falz's "Stories That Touch", Wande Coal's "Wanted" and "Seyi Shay's "Seyi or Shay" lost out to.

Headies 2016 Why musicians ‘boycotted’ Nigeria’s most prestigious music awards So why did celebrities boycott the Headies? Why did Nigeria's most prestigious awards get a low celebrity turn out?

The Headies was boycotted by Nigerian musicians. That fact was evident as the award show started. A huge number of fans were quick to point out the long rows of reserved seats for nominees and stars who failed to turn up.
The show which held on December 23, 2016, at the Eko Convention Centre, Eko Hotels & Suites, had a very low turnout of celebrities. Their absence was glaring with numerous nominees and awardees absent at the award.

The show which was hosted by Falz and Adesua Etomi and celebrated the best of Nigerian music had many awardees fail to turn up. Numerous awards were left unclaimed by the winners as some presenters had to take the awards with them backstage.
Notable absentees were the entire members of Mavin Records and YBNL Records, two music companies whose bosses had a bitter spat at the previous edition.
Simi failed to claim her award for “Best Vocal Performance”, Kiss Daniel failed to claim an award, Illblisss who was a big winner in two categories, Patoranking who won the Best Reggae/Dancehall single was absent, and Olamide won two awards, but was a no show.

The first reason is that celebrities didn’t really boycott the Headies. A lot of them came too late to be given a seat at the head of the table, or step forward to accept their awards. Over the past two years, the Headies had started the show late in a bid to accommodate the lateness of stars. But this year was different. The organisers decided to kick off the award without the artistes. And the results was poor for TV.
Also, the Headies date for this year is in December, a holiday season when the stars are booked for numerous paid events. With clients to satisfy across the world, many artistes, being businessmen, would rather make the right choice of making money, than showing up at the Headies.
The Headies provides recognition and promotion, but performance fees are the reason why many stars do this, and they will rather be making money than making good waves on TV. This tweet below sums it all up. The Mavins are on their way to Cote D'Ivoire for a concert in Abidjan, while the entire YBNL crew have a paid appearance date at a club in Osogbo.
Finally, many celebrities just don’t care. It’s the truth. After 11 years of attending the Headies, many have become jaded, especially those without nominations or a chance to win anything at the trophy. Why dress up, and drive down to the Headies, when I have no important role to play? Why? Why come out to watch other artistes win prizes that I also qualify for?
Also, others just want to avoid the limelight of live TV. Unlike what they are familiar with in their careers, the Headies is streamed live to millions of homes across the continent and beyond. As a star, you always have the cameras on you. This means you have to be of your best behavior and stay guarded all through. One wrong facial expression, a misplaced move, and ill-timed gesticulation, and you will forever become the butt of social media jokes, and endless memes. Ask Dija how she felt after last year’s enthusiastic jumping earner the bashing of her life.
Also, ask Eva Alordiah’s fiancĂ© – Caesar – who got snubbed by Wizkid, “ How Market”?

Poor show, bad execution, but it's still Nigeria's best

Was it a poor show, judging by standards that the Headies had earlier set? Yes. The production failed to cover itself in glory. And a number of reasons can be put forward as causes. But the bottomline shows that the organisation was substandard.

It’s quite the year for the Headies. This marks the first time that two Headies Awards shows will be held in one calendar year. Wasn’t it just yesterday that Don Jazzy and Olamide were going at each other, while the rest of Nigeria watched on in delight, disgust and concern?
The second 2016 Headies rolled into town, with the bar set in the hearts of fans to expect uncertainty. Many people wanted something special, although no one had a clear picture of what they had in mind. For many others, they just wanted a show to rival the best of what the US had, and what MTV was doing on the continent.

These people were left disappointed. Everyone was left disappointed. Everyone who wasn’t a winner.
It has been a difficult year to run business in Nigeria. The country is suffering from the effects a recession, which has destabilized businesses, with inflation and the a downward spiral of the Naira having negative ripple effects on business, and the standard of living. It’s a tough year to secure sponsorships, and the Headies felt the weight of it. The event ran without a headline sponsor.
Viewers from home who watched a live feed mostly complained about the poor quality of the pictures and audio, while the production of the show failed to impress. The ideas were large and designed to be effective and entertaining, the performances all planned out, and the awards looking very shiny. But execution left a lot to be desired.

Compared to last year, and the year before that, the Headies started on time. Shout out to Ayo Animashaun who gave the the thumbs up for the show to be kicked off when 90% of the nominees and eventual winners were absent. Lateness is a culture of the country, and the Headies was disrespected by the stars who were blatantly late.
Empty seats in front, made the affair look a bit unattended and sparse, and eventually took something off the general shine of the event. Transitioning was a big issue, with drags and friction marring the entire production.
Hosts for the night, Falz and Adesua Etomi, were amazing. They didn’t have enough practice, but they combined humor, wit, slapstick displays to put out a good performance, and salvage what they can. Falz and Etomi gave music performances, were glowing in fashion, and also scored a winner with the funny depiction of Bobrisky.

The show initially had a very low turnout of celebrities. Their absence was glaring with numerous nominees and awardees absent at the award. Lateness and a heavy December schedule for many star acts ensured that holes were left in the ceremony.
The magic of the Headies was on display as Kcee and Harrysong reunited on stage. The former label mates were best of friends and frequent collaborators during their time at until November 2016, when Harrysong abruptly split from the group and swiftly set up a new music company, named Alter Plate.

There was drama too. It was an embarrassment for Phyno, as the rapper failed to pick up any gold trophy. Phyno who appeared late and had a ceremonious entrance, was awarded the Song Of The Year for his efforts on ‘Fada Fada’, came out to receive his trophy. The rapper opted not to give an acknowledgement speech, grabbing the mic and coldly muttering "Me I no get speech o, Thank u for the award"
But no trophy was handed to him. No assistant usher brought any trophy on stage for the star, and he was made to walk back to his seat empty handed. Midway through the walk, he met up with Ayo Animashaun, the organiser of the award and laid his frustration. One of the events that will forever be ingrained in the hearts of the audience was Wizkid snubbing Eva Alordiah's fiancĂ©, Caesar. Wizkid walked into the venue almost at the last hour sending the crowd into a frenzy. While walking past he reached out to hug someone, Caesar thinking it was him, stretched his arms only for Wizkid to ditch him and hug Eva.

The event was later ended abruptly. With a number of awards not presented and Flavour showing up to round it off.
Was it a poor show, judging by standards that the Headies had earlier set? Yes. The production failed to cover itself in glory. And a number of reasons can be put forward as causes. But the bottomline shows that the organisation was substandard.
But if you can look away from this year’s production and see the bigger picture, then you will have a deep sense of admiration for what Ayo Animashaun has done with the Headies. It’s Nigeria’s most consistent and prestigious music show, standing out as the yardstick for measuring the best in the country. This year's edition is the 11th.
